Public Outreach and Education

Santa Monica Baykeeper Public Outreach and Education Title Image

Santa Monica Baykeeper believes that protecting the quality of our natural resources is the responsibility of every citizen. Therefore, we offer a wide range of programs that educate and involve community members in the restoration of our coastal resources. Our public outreach and watershed education programs inform citizens about the connection between human activities and the health of our local waterways. Listed below are our current programs that we offer.

Clean Water Act: Empower the People Program

Beginning in July, we will be holding a series of workshops which will provide an overview of the Clean Water Act and feature presentations from experts on how the Clean Water Act has been and should be used to address a variety of water quality issues here in Los Angeles. The goal of these workshops will be to empower people with the knowledge and tools they need to help ensure the proper enforcement of the Clean Water Act.

Clean Cities, Clean Oceans Contest

This free contest encourages citizens to do their part to reduce storm drain pollution by pledging to perform a simple list of prevention action items in the home or at the workplace. Participants are entered into a random drawing for valuable prizes.

Adopt-A-Highway

Are you tired of seeing trash wash up on the beach? Annoyed by all that litter on the street? If you answered yes, then help us do something about it! Join us the third Saturday of each month as we remove litter from Lincoln Blvd. and put it where it belongs: in the trash!

Tabling

The Baykeeper Booth needs your help! Join us at a community event near you to help us educate the public about the many threats that human activity poses to the health of the Santa Monica Bay and what Santa Monica Baykeeper is doing about it.

Classroom Education

Our in-class presentations include lessons on kelp reforestation and the problem of urban runoff pollution, and are tailored to the needs of your class. Attention teachers! Sign up for an in-class Baykeeper presentation today!
